When a spouse refuses or neglect to meet their alimony or child support obligation, the receiving spouse has several enforcement options in Kansas. One option is to request garnishment of wages. Another is by filing a request to have the spouse held in contempt. The goal of both methods is to "encourage" the spouse to fulfill their obligations. Even though they are both enforcement actions, jail via a contempt motion is not a substitute for payment of the obligation. Contempt is a punitive tool. So, to answer your question, "yes", the court can order you jailed per a contempt motion and can also sign an order authorizing the garnishment of your wages.
