i have a question regarding job abandonement and final pay

Good morning, my son recently had a family emergency and left the country to visit his grandparents. He left his job and did not notify them of him not going to work or that he was leaving the country. He worked 4 days for the pay period which that fell in. The day he was suppose to receive his direct deposit, he did not receive it even tho he worked four days. Can his job withhold his funds ?

Employee pay may only be legally withheld:
1) With employee consent or agreement; or
2) With a court or similar legal order (e.g. from IRS), such as for wage garnishment. Otherwise, the employee must be paid, and could sue (such as in small claims court) if not.
