I had a family Emergency, and my Job is asking for proof and documents before I come back to work. Is this legal?

Mother had heart attack, My boss told me to go be with her, my other supervisor
told me not to come back without documentation and a doctors note. Can they
actually ask me for my mothers medical records?

An employer is not required to take what an employee says at face value, but can ask for proof or verification. You don't have to show your mother's detailed medical records, but a note from a doctor on his or her letterhead stating that she had a heart attack, plus maybe parking validation from the hospital should suffice.
