If I filed for divorce last year but for financial reasons put the divorce on hold and would like to resume the process now, what should be my next step?

You should got to the county clerk's office and have them help you figure out the status of the case.  If the other spouse was served, the case is most likely still pending and you would just have to file a motion for a hearing to get things moving along again.
