I do not have enough facts to help you.  I need to know what kind of business you are running/operating.  Did you set up an Limited Liability company to own/operate your business to sheild yourself from liability should someone sue you?  i would start there.  Generally, you do not need a license to operate an online business.  I would however, set up the LLC by filing with the secretary of state.  I suggest that you spend $1000 or so on a lawyer to help you set this up.  It is quite easy to do yourself if you call the secretary of state (may only cost $80 to set up LLC), but you may need other things done depending on your business.
