How do I find out if I’m filing a small claims suit in the right state?

I work for a car transport company there are multiple business in different states who have not paid their invoices. One of them paid but the check was returned. I don’t know if I’m able to file these suits in the county we’re located in or in the county/state the other business is located in.

You are the plaintiff.  The party you are suing is the defendant.
A lawsuit can be filed in the state where the plaintiff resides or in the state where the defendant resides or in the state where the transaction occurred which is the subject of the lawsuit.
