I am so sorry for your loss.  So if she died with a Will then her wishes in the Will govern the distribtuion of her estate. If she died without a WIll, then the intestacy laws in California will decide how her assets are dsitributed.  Here is the statute.  There are a lot of variables.  Good luck.
