Getting married and get the green card

I’m from Chile. I came to the States 6 months ago with the ESTA and stayed for almost 3 months. After that I went to Canada for a week and came back to U.S. So I’ve been here for a month already. I have a boyfriend here and he’s American. We talked about getting married so we could stay together but I’m not sure what the process is to make that happen. Also, would I have the chance to get a green card in the future? If so, how long would that take? Could marry next week? We don’t care, we just want to stay together. Basically, what are my options?

you can get married and then he can petition for your green card; however, i would not do it so soon after you entered the US.  I would wait for at least 70-90 days after your last entry, get married and then apply for the green card.  it will then take about 5-7 months for you to get the green card.  Please let me know if you have any additional questions or how I can be of further assistance to you in this matter.
