If my ex-husband asked for his wedding ring back after our being divorced almost 16 years but I have no idea where it is, do I owe him the monetary value of it?

I have no idea where it is.

Look at your agreement when you divorced.  How was jewelry handled or was it handled at all?  That will govern what you need to do here.  If you wre supposed to turn it over and did not it would be considered a breach of the marital contract but I think his time to sue you for it passed a long, long time ago.  Good luck.
