Didn’t get enough credit for prior years taxes at closing

At closing I received a credit to cover 2008 taxes for $1197.20. Today I received the tax bill for the property and it is for over $3300. It was explained to me that the main reason for the difference is that nobody occupied the home in 2008. This was not disclosed to me at closing or when we made the offer on the home. What are my legal options for pursuing this money, or do I just have to pay it myself?

You should follow up with this immediately, with whoever represented you at the closing.  If you did this entirely on your own, notify the seller and ask for the difference;  send a letter with a copy of the bill. 

I don't know exactly what you'll be able to do if the seller doesn't pay;  you may have to hire a lawyer and sue them.
