Can I sue my neighbor for shooting my dog?

My dog ran into the neighbors yard last week. She was on his property for less than a minute and he shot her using a shotgun with the bird-shot type ammo, riddling her body with over 100 small BB’s. She has never been on his property in the past and I’ve spoken with him in regards to my dogs and explained that even though they are Pitbulls, they are very, very friendly. I had to bring her into the vet on an emergency call basis because the vet was closed. Can I sue him? If so what am I entitled to and what kind of lawsuit would it fall under?

From what you have written, there is a possibility that the shooting of your dog by your neighbor may or may not have been warranted. I suggest that you consult with a pesonal injury attorney about the situation or if not, you can bring a small claims court action for the value of our dog and the veterinarian bills you incurred.

The issue is why did the neighbor shoot your dog? Was the neighbor under the belief that he or she was going to be attacked? Good luck.
