Can I be written up for violating a rule not outlined in my employers company policy?

My employer could not provide me with a
date/time/occurrence for which I was
being disciplined. And worsened by the
fact that the only thing they would
tell me is that ‘someone’ complained.
So without facts dates and times handed
me a write up based on hearsay.

Unless this action violates the terms of a union agreement or employment contract it is legal. The fact is that company policy is not typiclly binding; it is just a guideline. Further, the fact is that most employment relationships are "at will". This means that a company can set the conditions of work much as it sees fit (absent some form of legally actionable discrimination).
