Can I be fired for taking a second job at night?
I was working at a daycare in the morning and was having trouble paying my bills so I took a night job at another daycare. My morning job fired me the next day because I took the second job because they said it is a conflict of interst but they have another employee that works at 2 daycares and they say that it’s OK for them to because the other daycare she works at is not right down the road.

Unless your presumed employer employee contract had a provision preventing you working a second job similar to your primary job, then your employer could terminate you for taking a second job similar to the initial job. Absent that, for your employer to terminate you simply for taking a second job at another day care center during these recessionary times may subject your first employer who terminate you to a legal action.
I suggest that you contact a labor law attorney as well as make a complaint with your local labor department over what happened.
