Can I avoid paying alimony to my dependent husband if he has been emotionally and mentally abusive?
Part of the abuse has been my “punishment” to pay for everything in the marriage, because I “owe” him — while he gives me nothing and pays no bills. Would a court require me to stay in his financial prison, even after a divorce?

Spousal support if award in the dissolution of a marriage is based upon equalizing the ability of each spouse to become gainfully employed in order to support himself or herself later on through education and training if such presently does not exist.
Whether the soon to be "ex" as emotionally or mentally abusive has no bearing upon whether spousal support is issued by the court for a certain period of time. I suggest that you consult further with a family law attorney for assistance as to the matter you are writing about.
