I would like to know how I can get my divorce/support order moved to the state the where my children and I now live?

Question Details:

I am in NY with the kids; the kids father is in NH; the divorce took place in ME. Is there any way I can move my divorce and support to NY were the kids and I have lived for the last 10 years? The kids father doesn't even live in the state were the divorce was granted.

Generally, the court in one jurisdiction will recognize the order in another jurisdiction (i.e., another state).  You should consult with a divorce attorney to determine if support/custody/visitation arrangements should be technically changed so as to avoid any technical violations that could render you in contempt.  In other words, a divorce in Maine and one parent living in New Hampshire is not a far commute as compared to a divorce in Maine, one parent living in New Hampshire and the other in New York.

You may wish to review any issues of the increased cost of living, children becoming adults and thus no longer being qualified to receive child support, and your own support issues (an increase or decrease of need of such support based on location of residence, work situation, and possible re-marriage).
