Which state has jurisdiction over child custody case?

Question Details:

I received residential custody of my child in 2007 because my ex was a convicted **** user. My ex lives in Kansas and I live in Texas. She is talking about taking me back to court in Kansas to get custody of our daughter back. Would I have to go to Kansas to court even though my daughter and myself live in Texas? Would she win by default if I could not make it to Kansas to court because i have a family to support? What are the odds of her getting custody if our daughter has a stable environment and good academic scores with me in Texas?
