Whose responsible when a provider drops a prominent insurance co and doesn't inform patient the day of treatment and then bills patient for total amt?

Question Details: I had a routine mammogram done at the same time of year July 09, prescription to go from the same doctor, to the same radiology group using the same prominent insurance co PPOfor the last 10 years. From 1-09 to 9-09 the radiology group stopped their contract the insurance company. My mamogram fell into that time frame. The radiology group is "allowing" me to pay half the full amount as they couldn't bill my insurance. Is it legal for them to do this? Who is responsible? What do I do now?

Oh boy -- it may be that you are responsible because ultimately you need to check to see if covered by your insurance.  You can also see it this way:

1) Why didn't the doctor's office tell you when you went in to register/check in?

2) Why didn't your insurance company issue a letter or notice to you?

File a complaint with the following:

1) California Dept of Insurance

2) California Attorney General
