Who is liable in this case?

Question Details:

Sunday morning my friend and I went to a stadium to see a football game. After using our parking pass we went inside. When we came back out his truck had been broken into and my possessions were gone. We were told the cameras do not reach that area but the only way you can enter is to have a blue lot parking pass. My friend's insurance is through his company and he is not supposed to use the vehicle for personal use. Do I file a claim with his insurance or is stadium parking obligated to provide security for his vehicle? Could you point me in the right direction?

Good luck!

If you can prove that there is a history of game-time burglaries in that parking lot, and convince a court that what the stadium did in response to that history was not reasonable, then you might be able to recover for whatever losses you can prove.  This is absolutely not a do-it-yourself lawsuit, even if it could be brought in small claims court.

Whether you file a claim against the insurance is up to you.  If you do, you need to understand that you are putting your friend's job at risk.
