Question: Auto Accidents - Michigan

Asked on 11/6/2009

Who gets to pick who fixes my car, the company at fault or me?

My car was parked on private property and was hit by the trash truck after he picked up the dumpster. The company said they will pay for it and asked me to get three estimates. So I did and the auto collision place I want to fix my car is a little more expensive then the other two. I think they are going to try and get me to have the lowest estimate do it.

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in the area of the law.  You should get the insurance company the estimates and then determine what they will give you in terms of money for the damages.  then you may take the car anywhere you want and have the insurance company issue you a check.  if you disagree with the estimate, take the car to your own garage for an estimate and get the insurance company to come up higher.   You ultimately can choose where thre car is serviced.  however, the idea is to get it fixed right.
