When someone dies without a Will and has a child, what rights does a long-time girlfriend have?

If the house is in his name, it will go to child.  Under the statute, the girlfriend would automatically take nothing; the child would take all. She would have to file a meritricious case agaisnt the estate to try and recover her share.
