Pro Se representaton has its advantages and disadvantages.  On the plus side, you save on attorneys' fees when representation yourself.  However the biggest disadvantage is obviously not knowing what to do or how to present one's case in court.  There are a myriad of legal procedure that attorneys do to successfully present a case for his/her client.  Without a good experienced family law attorney it would be difficult for a pro se Respondent to gain an advantage in any civil trial.  It is best to have legal representation even for simple cases and more so for complex contested child custody cases.
