When a person transfers all responsibilities and assets to one family member, is that public information and, if so, where would I find it?
Question Details: This question is concerning my daughter's grandmother. The grandfather has turned over all his assets and the financial responsibilities over to the uncle. The grandmother has recently passed, and my daughter has heard nothing about a will or any inheritance. The grandmother always kept in touch with her.
I am so sorry for your loss. Only those documents that are public record by their very nature can be seen, such as a Will (filed in Probate Court) or a deed (filed in the County Clerk's Office). Other assets - such as a trust or bank accounts) are not a public record. Start with the probate court. Good luck.
