Question: Business - Michigan

Asked on 9/8/2009
What to do?
My fiancée has been given notice that her job will be eliminated at the end of the month (medical billing), the company consists of only 5 people. The Owner (her boss) is constantly making rude comments to her, purposely in front of her co-workers (believed to be in attempt to get her to quit as oppose to pay unemployment). She is upset to the point of leaving. What should she do?

AttorneyPages has verified that this person is an attorney.

If her employment is terminated due to layoff, she will be entitled to unemployment benefits.  If she quits, she may not be entitled to those benefits.  She should stay and record the comments, get the names of witnesses, etc.  There may be tort claims depending on the details of the situation.  The are exceptions, to discuss in more detail, please contact me, John Tatone at 586-868-5100.
