What should I do if my 17 year-old son inadvertently purchased a car on Ebay?

Question Details:

My son was looking at cars on E-bay. He entered a bid and clicked the "Place bid" button. He said he was just trying to see what the reserve was. Now the guy is calling me, but my son is 17. It is not a private sellerbut a dealer. What should I do? He should let me out of it since my son is a minor?

A valid contract requires an offer and acceptance.  Solicitation of bids by the advertiser is just an invitation to make an offer.  When your son placed a bid, that was an offer and when the seller accepted the bid, that constituted acceptance and formed a valid contract.

However, since your son is a minor, that is a defense to enforcement of the contract and you should assert the defense of minority on behalf of your son in the event the seller files a lawsuit to enforce the contract.
