What's my rights after I hire a lawyer to defend me then the lawyer becomes a judge?

Question Details: I hired a lawyer to defend me in a case and I have already paid him for some of his services. But when it came to going to the court house for my trail I found out the lawyer I hired had became a district Judge now. So I want to know what my rights are. Does he still have to defend me or does he have to refer me to someone else. And what happens to the money I paid him and come to find out he did nothen to my case?

I have to say I'm a bit surprised that you didn't learn about this directly from the new judge.

He cannot be your lawyer now.  He probably cannot ethically refer you to someone else, and he should refund whatever part of your retainer that he hasn't earned.

Find a new attorney to defend you.  He or she will also be able to deal with the new Judge, if you have any problems there.
