What is the best way to reduce credit card debt?

Question Details: Some places require you to be $25,000 in debt but why wait til someone is such a deep hole? I have a seasonal job and have trouble paying off my credit card. Now the credit card company is using a debt collector, but i have no way of paying plus what they think I owe them is not right. My card got stolen and I canceled my card. They sent a new one but did not activate it but they kept charging me. Can they do that? How can I fight this?

Cancelling a credit card account does not mean you don't have to pay the balance you already owe, even if you don't activate the new card.  And the interest and late fees, etc., keep going on, under the original credit card agreement.

If you dispute the amount, you'll need to be able to prove that you're right.  If the credit card company doesn't accept your proof, you'll have to let them sue you for the difference, and show your proof to the judge.
