What is a fair share of the lump sum that Social Security death benefits provide?

Social security death benefits are extremely limited - usually about $250.  They are not divided amongst people in the family and usually go to the surviving spouse.  Minor children can receive longer and more significant benefits but this is a regular payment, not a lump sum.
