Question: Bankruptcy - Illinois

Asked on 10/15/2009

What has to be left in a home that has been foreclosed on?

Can you tell me what the law in Illinois says about leaving things such as appliances in a home that is foreclosed? For example, can we take our washer, dryer and hotwater heater with us when we have to leave? Thank you.

As long as what you are taking is not considered a "fixture" that is attached to the house then it belongs to you. Be very careful with what you take, you should get advice from an attorney before taking anything out of the house.
