What do I do when someone entered my girlfriend's home with no permission, took my dog, and got him euthanized?

Person who enter was an animal control officer in a small town. They had no permission for entry or to take the animal. I assume made a fake animal profile write up and got him euthanized at a local humane society. This man does hold a grudge against me from years ago. I don't want to see him get away with this. What do I do?
Breaking and entering, which includes gaining entrance under false pretenses or false color of authority, is a crime, as is destroying someone else's property. If he had not authority for what he did, he has committed crimes and you could report him to the police and look to press charges. Indeed breaking and entering, depending on the circumstances, could be a felony.
You could see him for the economic value of the dog, though not, unfortunately, for the emotional or sentimental value. Therefore, a law suit is probably not economically worth it.
You could report him to his supervisor(s) and to other town authorities, such as the mayor.
You may wish to also consider getting a protective order against a man who is willing to kill a defenseless animal over a grudge.
