What consumer laws protect against billing for unsolicited services/proguct given?
Question Details: My wife and I recently moved into a new house. A local propane company filled our tank without our knowledge. Before this, we had never contacted them, and they never contacted us. We just found an invoice in the name of the previous residents that they had placed in our mailbox.
Most states have laws that protect against unfair or deceptive trade practices. This, however, does not seem like such a practice. Rather, it seems that the propane company provided this service for the former occupants and may not yet be aware that they have moved out. The invoice is not to you; it's not in your name; you haven't signed anything or agreed to any services. So just call the propane company and tell them that the previous owner has moved out; you are a new occupant and you do not need their services.
