Depending both on the complexity of your husband's case and whether the new lawyer has had enough time to adequately prepare his defense, new counsel can make a motion before the judge for an adjournment (for more time). It goes without saying that this motion may or may not be granted. Insofar as your meeting with the new lawyer on the day of trial is concerned, I need far more information. Whom are you referring to, the defendant or you? If you are referring to you, what role did you play in and what contributions can you make to your husband's defense? Are you a potential fact-witness? Can you provide information that leads to fact-witnesses and, yes, character witnesses? Can you provide information that leads to tangible evidence?
