What benefits do you get for staying married 10+ years before getting a legal separation?
Question Details:
If I file before 10 years of marriage but the legal separation is not official until after 10 years, does that change anything?
I am not sure which benefits you mean. In addition, ten years is not a magic number. You may be entitled to spousal support for about one-half the length of the marriage. If there are minor children, you are entitled to child support. You are entitled to a reasonable share of the marital property, which includes everything that either one or both of you own.
