Car was hit and totaled while parked

Question Details:

My car was hit and totaled while it was parked. The driver's insurance company paid my car off which left me with nothing; no money to pay down on a repalcement vehicle. I was wondering is it too late for me to try to to be compensated for more? I read somewhere online that I was supposed to be made whole; that is put back at least in the place I was before the wreck. What are my rights?
