If our humidifier caught on fire, is there any legal action that we can take?
Question Details:
Or any compensation we could get? It was in my daughter's bedroom.
If the humidifier caught fire because it was (1) defectively designed; (2) defectively manufactured; or (3) the warning or instructions were defective, then you may very well have a product liability lawsuit, though note: if you were fortunate enough that your daughter and other family members were not injured and the property damage was slight, it may not be worthwhile suing--you can only sue to recover compensation for injuries and property damage actually inflicted. Also, if there was no fault on the part of the manufacturer or seller--e.g. it caught fire because someone spilled flamable liquid into its working, electrified "guts"--then there would be no lawsuit. In that case, nothign was wrong with the product.
