Although I do not practice law in the State of Maryland, here are my initial impressions.  It is up to walmart whether they decide to send you a letter demanding compensation for the theft.  They may, but it is impossible to predict.  With respect to court and your record, that depends on whether you were arrested by the police and what the resolution of those charges are.  If you are not convicted, it will not become part of your record.  I suggest that you consult with a local attorney to discuss this  matter in greater detail so that your questions can be more thoroughly answered.  Good luck.
