Was addicted to pain meds, engaged in some doctor shopping online, but quit and have been clean for over a year. Do I have any reason for worry?

Question Details:

I was engaged in online doctor shopping to obtain painkillers for two years. Today I received a call from someone claiming to be a DEA agent investigating a doctor from whom they had gotten my name via their website. I have been clean for over a year, but now I am worried that this may have been an attempt to solicit information for a case against myself. How aggressive are law enforcement in pursuing such cases since I am no longer engaged in the activity? Does the fact that I completed treatment and have no prior record create favorable conditions to help avoid potential repercussions?

Your best bet is to retain a criminal defense attprney and have the attorney  contact the agent.  You do not want to talk to the agent yourself since anything you say may be used against you.  A lawyer can decide whether you are a target or just a potential witness.
