While at a dealership my car was scratched and they said that it was inconsequential lot damage; are they responsible?

Question Details:

I took my car for warranty repair work. I signed the required work order to start the process. When I returned to pick up the car I noticed there was paint damage on my door. I notified the service manager immediately and he asked me to drop the car off later in the week for repair. When returning the car for repairs the owner stepped in and stated it was lot damage and since I signed the work order that the small print below relieved them of damage. How can this be when they had care, custody or control of my vehicle? What are my options?
