Question Details: I am at fault in a car accident and I get sued, can I lose my house? Is there a certain time frame to pay that I have to follow? Is my husband liable financially even though he wasn't involved?
I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law. You can get sued personally if the policy does not cover the damages. if a judgment enters you may be able to work out a payment plan to pay off the money owed. your husband is only liable if he was the owner of the car and gave your permission. if the a judgment enters against either one of you that has their name on the home, the plaintiff can take the home to satisfy the claim if there is 75K in equity of the home.
