Attacked in a bar

Question Details:

Two weeks ago I was sucker-punched from behind at a bar. I received 3 broken bones around my eye socket. Two plates and screws were installed to reconstruct my face. I now have nerve damage and double vision. The incident was over something stupid. The guy that punched me had a choice to stay at the end of the bar or to attack me, well he attacked me. Prior to that we were bickering. I called the cops, and it was intially charged as battery, but later increased to an aggravated battery. He was arrested Thursday and charged; bond was set at $200,000. What will happen to him (he has priors)?  Also, what should l do about my extensive hospital bills?

What will happen to him depends on many factors: how many priors, for what, any extenuating circumstances to the priors, even the prosecutor's appetitite for a quick, easy resolution vs. seeking justice. In theory, having priors should increase the likelihood of jail time, but it really is very hard to call.

In terms of your hospital bills, you may sue this person for assault. If he has assets or insurance, you maybe able to collect a meaningful amount, if you prevail in the lawsuit.
