Sub-contractors listed on workman's comp insurance?

Question Details: If our local running group hires sub-contractors, do we have to provide them with workman's comp insurance?

Are they employees, even temporary employees, of your group? Then yes.

On the other hand, do they have their own businesses and/or other clients and so are not actually employees? Then no. Not that it's a definitive test, but if you're paying them as 1099 employees, then no; if as W-2 (or if you should be paying them as W-2), then yes.
