stolen truck

Question Details: My brother had a truck stolen from his home sometime in April. When this truck was stolen, my brother was in a nursing home recovering from having both feet amputated! I was going to make out a report that the truck was stolen but the police dept. called me and told me that it was already reported stolen. This truck was stopped once for running a red light and then impounded on Sept.13th for expired tags, The truck is due to be auctioned off very soon because of storage fees. When I called the police dept. about this, I was told the truck wasn't reported stolen! What do I do?

There is something missing from your story.  Under what circumstances do police officers make an affirmative call to someone to let them know that their brother's truck has been reported stolen?  That simply does not make sense.  Moreover, once the truck was impounded, I'm sure that someone must have have made an attempt to contact the truck's rightful owner. In any event, it is clear that you need to start to document your efforts to have reported the truck stolen.  Do you remember what officer you spoke to?  Did you take down any badge numbers?  Finally, you need gather these facts and put them in writing, demanding the return of the truck.
