The general rule is that there are very limited reasons that a court will allow you to extend (or go outside of the statute of limitations.  However, they do exist.  For example, if it was impossible for you to know of your claim within the statute of limitations (perhaps due to the liable party's fraudulent acts) then sometimes a court will allow a claim to be filed based upon the doctrine of "equitable tolling" of the statute of limitations.  In any event, if you have a personal injury claim but are outside of the statute of limitations, I suggest that you consult with a local attorney to discuss your claim in greater detail in the interest of determining whether any options remain available to you.  Good luck.
