Starting a company and would like to know if websites made by it are covered under the LLC or does each one have to be a separate LLC.
Question Details: I am starting an Internet company and registering it as an LLC. The company will make, own and manage different websites. Do each of these websites have to be registered as separate LLCs that are owned by the company or are they already covered under it? Since the websites are going to have different domain names do I have to get a DBA for them? Thank you for your time
I don't think you need separate LLC's at all. If you were opening a chain of stores (for example), it might be a different story, since there would be some substantial assets involved separately for each one; that way, a suit against one store wouldn't reach the equipment, etc., in another one. But a website doesn't involve anything like that, assuming that you are working through a web hosting company rather than having your own server(s).
I also doubt that separate DBA's are necessary, although I'd work your company name into the design of each website. You should talk to a local attorney to work through the details, for reliable advice.
