What to do if someone hit our dog but didn't inform us until approximately 36 hours after the accident?
Question Details: They left the scene and didn't report it. They didn't check to see if dog was OK. We aren't completely sure if the dents are from the dog because he didn't stop and tell us right when it happened. It has been two weeks and they are telling us the estimate is more than the car is worth. Do we pay?
I find it odd that the person claiming that he or she hit your animal that was presumably improperly in the street did not stop right after the mishap to see if the dog was fine and that more than thirty-six (36) hours after the incident the driver is seeking payment for damages. The driver has the burden of proving the claim against you and from what you have written about, the claim seems suspicious.
