Someone died and the personal representative wants to give me the decedent's car.
Question Details:
A person died, their surviving dependent wants to give me their car for free. What is the process? How long must we wait? Will there be any fees?
I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the law. If the surviving dependent wants to give you property of the decedent, that is ok. however, you want to first confirm that the dependant has the right to give you the property. if the dependant has the right, title and interest in the car, then you do not have to wait for anything. i suggest having the dependant's lawyer draft up a bill of sale and make a representation that it is the owner of the car by signing a contract for the sale of the car for $1.00. You will have to pay to get the car registered under your name.

Are you a lawyer?
