Question: Personal Injury - California

Asked on 10/1/2009
Slip and fall in a grocery store.
Good Morning, I was walking in Food Maxx w/my fiance and I slipped in a puddle of clear water and no WET SIGN around. Right after the accident I reported it to the nearest employee I could find. He told management and I filled an accident report. Went to my physician and was told I have a acute right sprain knee and out for 2 weeks. Rafael who is checking things out w/Food Maxx is waiting for my paperwork and needs to see if Food Maxx is liable and it will take 2-6 weeks. Financially hurting. Should I contact a lawyer? Thank u, Ileana

It is always a good idea to talk with a lawyer.  Take a look at this web site for possible lawyers.  The liability in your case will depend on where the water came from and how long it had been on the floor.  Here are a few things you should know:  first, don't expect that you will get a copy of the incident report.  These reports are privileged.  Second, make sure that you do not give a recorded or written statement to an insurance adjuster (or anyone) representing Food Maxx.  Most lawyers handled these cases on a contingent fee basis so it will not cost you anything to consult with a lawyer.  Good luck.
