What legal action can I take against a contractor who disappeared with my money?

Question Details:

I signed a contract for residential work, left a $2500 deposit, and then contractor disappeared. The police are unable to issue a warrant without an address. The man took over the business of his father who was previously in business for over 25 years. The father's home address and company name was on the contract. Can I file charges and suit against the father? I have the deadbeat's social security number as well as his drivers license number. Would appreciate any direction as my finances are limited.

if you have the ss# and DL the police should be able to find the last address on either, but chances are he has used his father's address.  If your contract is with a "company" you may wish to bring suit against the"company" Without reviewing the actual contract an attorney could not give you a more exact answer. The claim is relatively small so you could bring the action in small claims court The father may appear and provide valuable information.
