Question: DUI / DWI Traffic - Oregon

Asked on 11/2/2009

Should we hire an attorney if my son was cited for minor in possession (not while driving or being in a car)?

My son walked out of a frat house with several friends, beer in hand, only to be met by three policemen. He was given a MIP citation.

Well, is he in college? If so, such a citation could impact his school standing and discipline record.

Is this his first offense? If so, it may be useful to hire a lawyer to negotiate some type of alternative conviction program if one is available in your state to allow the minor defendant to simply do community service or keep clean for certain time periods in which case after a time has lapsed the conviction could be dismissed and then he can seek a sealing of his record or expungement.

Try www.attorneypages.com if you wish to consult with a criminal defense attorney in your state.  You can check his or her disciplinary record at the Oregon State Bar.
