Should I take my battery case to court?

I am a lawyer in CT and practice in this area of the the law.  If you have witnesses to the incident that will come to court to testify if need be, then I suggest that you press charges and file a lawsuit against this kid.  The issue is going to be - assuming that you prove liability - is collecting the money. The issue of collecting is what you need to consider first.  If the kid is an adult and has a job, you can likely garnish his wages and/or attach his home if he owns one.  If this is a young kid in high school or college, then you should still go after him as you can get a judgment and then go after him later when he gets a job.  I suggest that you look into collectability and speak with a lawyer.  Most lawyers will give you a free initial consultation.
