Should I have to pay for the part?

Question Details: I was independent contractor for an auto delivery company. I was in an auto accident and the part was with me. They're taking money out of my check to pay for the part. Shouldn't they have insurance on the part to cover such an accident?

If you are an independent contractor, you are paid for providing a service--in this  case, making a delivery of an undamaged part. If you do not make that delivery, the company contracting with you may well have grounds to reduce or debit your payment.

If you are an independent contractor who regularly delivers expensive parts, you should maintain your own commerical insurance to protect yourself.
